Nasolabial folds are the deep wrinkles or lines that form on either side of the mouth that extends from the edge of the nose to the mouth’s outer corners. They become more prominent when people smile. These folds also tend to deepen with age. Nasolabial fillers soften and smoothen the nasolabial folds by plumping up the mouth area and creating an overall facial lift.
Also, as we age, the facial fat pads (tightly packed, subcutaneous fat cells) diminish in the upper part of the face and become fuller in the lower face causing the skin to sag and form marionette lines. Dermal fillers provide an effective treatment for marionette lines as they plump out the wrinkles gently, creating a smoother facial appearance. The fillers can also be injected into the cheeks to lift the skin by replacing the fading face pads in that area.
Marionette lines are the lines/folds that extend from the outer corners of the mouth down to the jawline on either side of the chin. Beside age-related fat reduction in the face, there are a few other factors that could contribute towards getting a Marionette line. Such as, repeated facial expressions (such as smiling, smoking, chewing), reduced production of collagen and elastin.

Dermal fillers provide an effective treatment for marionette lines. Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that restore lost volume in the face, stimulate collagen production, and attract moisture to the treatment area. This fills in the wrinkles and folds while improving skin texture and flexibility.
Dermal fillers are injected into the targeted areas using insulin gauge needles for minimum discomfort and maximum precision. The procedure can take up to 40 minutes and the effects last for up to 12-18 months.
The procedure consists of dermal fillers being injected into the targeted points along the nasolabial folds using tiny needles to soften lines and wrinkles.
A topical anesthetic may be administered to decrease discomfort. The procedure itself takes up to twenty minutes and the effects can stay for 6 to 9 months.
Post treatment
- Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after the treatment.
- Avoid alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours.
- Avoid extreme hot or cold temperatures and do not stay for extended periods of time in the sunlight.
- At the injection site, you may see bruising which will resolve 1-10 days post-treatment.
- An icepack may be applied for swelling and comfort post-treatment.
- Ensure to keep hydrated and drink plenty of water.

Every individual is different. What may give an immediate result on one client may take two or three sessions on another. Likewise, what may last 1 year on one client may last less than 12 weeks on another. This is due to several factors including lifestyle, skin type, metabolism, etc. Filler does, however, take time to build up, regardless of how natural you want it. Please be patient and expect to visit frequently for top-ups over the first year to build a base. This will help ensure your treatment area last longer and once that base is in place – you should need less maintenance in the future.
